This post is a tribute to my late paternal grandfather, who was a lifelong member of Reedy Baptist Church. My grandfather served as treasurer and trustee of the church before his health failed.

Reedy Baptist Church is located off of Dry Bridge Road in Ruther Glen of Caroline County. It was established in 1869 by several men, including an ancestor of mine: William Fields, Valvin Sutton, Elmore Taylor, Jack Washington, Jim Dixon, Bob Winston, and Dick Johnson. The cemetery is right behind the church, where I am standing in the header on this page. According to my grandfather and others I’ve spoken to, some members of Reedy Church were also buried nearby on what was known as Dickie Young’s farm. It is believed that my grandfather’s grandmother is buried there. Naturally, I want to visit that site but have to seek permission from the current owners.

Although the church is small, it is still thriving today. This photo is my personal photo, taken many years ago.
