George Washington Carver alumni leading effort for museum in historic black high school in Culpeper

The George Washington Carver Regional High School Association is leading an effort to establish a museum in the former library of the historic black school on U.S. 15 in Culpeper, and it’s an idea favored by county officials.

The Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia will officially open at the historic Leigh Street Armory on May 10 after a weekend of public celebration.

A state historical marker will tell the story of Richard and Mildred Loving, the Caroline County couple whose relationship dismantled laws against interracial marriage, Virginia officials announced Monday.
