If you haven’t checked out the Library of Virginia’s website lately, you should! Featured on the site is Forsaken, the story of a young black servant, Virginia Christian, convicted of killing her white employer in 1912. Christian was the first female juvenile executed in Virginia by the electric chair. Intense, right?

I recently came across this advice on finding Virginia slave owners. I tried it but it didn’t work for me; however, these tips might work for you or others! Click here to read and try the advice.

I was lucky to have traced many of my ancestors back to their last slave owners because of their county’s cohabitation list and the Virginia Slave Births Index.

Happy hunting!
